How to Cut an Avocado Like a Pro

Here are the 10 steps:

Wash Your Hands:

Start by washing your hands thoroughly to ensure cleanliness.

Select a Ripe Avocado:

Choose a ripe avocado that yields slightly to gentle pressure when squeezed.

Cutting the Avocado:

  • Place the avocado on the cutting board horizontally, with the stem end facing up.
  • Hold the avocado firmly with one hand.
  • Use a sharp knife to make a lengthwise cut around the avocado. Start at the top (stem end) and cut all the way around until you meet your starting point. Be cautious while cutting and avoid applying excessive pressure.

Twisting and Opening:

Hold the avocado with both hands and twist the two halves in opposite directions to separate them. The seed should stay attached to one half.

Removing the Seed:

To remove the seed, carefully tap the knife blade into the seed. Gently twist the knife to loosen the seed from the flesh. Be very careful to avoid injury. Alternatively, you can use a spoon to scoop out the seed.

Removing the Flesh:

Once the seed is removed, you can either scoop the flesh out of each half with a spoon or peel the skin off the flesh, depending on your preference. To scoop, use a spoon to gently separate the flesh from the skin. Start at the wide end and work your way towards the narrower end. To peel, carefully slide a spoon or your fingers between the flesh and the skin, then peel the skin away.

Inspect for Ripeness:

Check the flesh for any brown spots or signs of spoilage. If you find any, cut them out with a knife.

Slicing or Dicing:

Now that you have the avocado flesh separated or peeled, you can slice or dice it as desired for your recipe.

Lemon or Lime Juice (Optional):

To prevent the avocado from browning, you can drizzle a little lemon or lime juice over the slices or cubes.

Enjoy:

Your sliced or diced avocado is now ready to be used in salads, sandwiches, guacamole, or any other dish you prefer.
